Emmett Technique with Janine Every time I come I'm amazed and how powerful Emmett technique is, and how quickly it changes rock-hard painful muscles into loose and relaxed ones 🙂 Janine is a real expert in this, and knows intuitively which areas to target to get the best relief. She's one of the best therapists I can say I've ever gone to, for massage, Emmett or any other therapy. She always makes appointments enjoyable as well with her chat, which is a real bonus 🙂

The EMMETT Technique is based on the belief that light touch can trigger a relaxation response in the soft tissue of the body, and the therapist may help relieve tensions resulting in feelings of improved comfort within the body.

It may be enjoyed by people of all ages, from the very young to the elderly.
Many people find they feel more at ease within their body and emotional well being is enhanced.

This internationally recognised technique developed by Ross Emmett and taught in over 30 countries worldwide.

It works well as a standalone approach but can easily be combined with other complementary therapies such as massage, reflexology and pregnancy work.

This is a light but very powerful treatment.  We have had success with this treatment in working with frozen shoulders, painful hips, knees, and even some amazing outcome in working with people with brain injuries.  Helping free up contracted limbs.

People who may choose to select this treatment:

  • Athletes in preparation for, or following a sporting events.

  • As part of rehabilitation following an injury.

  • Those with problems with joints, i.e. frozen shoulder, problematic knees, tennis elbow and repetitive strain injury.

  • Anyone with acute or chronic soft tissue injuries.

People who should not choose a the Emmett Technique:

  • Those wanting a deep tissue massage.  This is a powerful but light treatment.

Effectively it is like some one has the cheat codes to your body and can release the muscular problems without having to rip it out of you.  (So to speak)

Be sure to advise your therapist of any pre-existing medical conditions or areas to avoid before they begin your treatment.

During your Emmett treatment

People can be treated seated, standing or lying down.

The treatment can be applied directly to the skin or through clothing.

Sessions can last anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes if the EMMETT Technique is used alone – longer if combined with a relaxing massage or other modality.

These corrections are also locked in with movement.  So if you are having work done on your legs or balance you will be asked to do a few laps of the massage table.

How does it work?

There is no current scientific explanation for the mechanism by which it achieves the relaxation response.

We believe that science simply hasn’t caught up to how this therapy works.  However, we believe a good analogy is that of a digital touch-screen.

We believe the EMMETT points are small sensory receptors that allow access to the brain via the therapists’ touch.

The brain then evaluates this stimulus and initiates the relaxation response of the soft tissue.

The pressure required is not heavy or painful. “No pain no gain” has NO place in the EMMETT therapist’s approach.
